3 important words every business owner should know

Have you ever worked with a business coach? After resisting under the veil of being “too busy”, I have recently started working with an insightful business coach and am enjoying being challenged with some fresh perspectives.

As a business owner, we need to continually improve how well we understand our clients – what motivates them?; what influences their decisions?; what do they value? The answers to these questions are obviously not uniform. We know this – people are complex. But does your marketing strategy accommodate this? You’ve identified your target market and put a marketing strategy in place. Great work! But why aren’t clients lining up outside your door (yet)? There will be many reasons for this but it provides an opportunity for reflection. How do you want to be perceived by your current and prospective clients?

I recently completed this exercise with my business coach and it may help you with the notion of perception. Here are 3 questions to ask yourself:

  • What are 3 words my clients use to describe me or my business?
  • What are 3 words I want my clients to use to describe me or my business?
  • What do I need to change to become the business owner I aspire to be?

Decisions we make on a regular basis are often based on how we think we are perceived. Have you ever backed away from trying something new because you weren’t sure what other people might think? We often start with a clear business plan but has it become compromised along the way? No-one else can run the business you aspire to run. Be authentically you and your target market will love you for it.
